Happy Valentines Day!!!

Valentines Day is here! When couples give each other chocolates and flowers as a sign of affection. As someone who is currently single, I am taking a different look on this holiday. Instead of being upset because I am single, I am counting my blessings on what I have to love on this day. I have a wonderful home with two loving parents, a sweet sister, a supportive family, and a group of you’re-never-going-to-get-rid-of-us friends.

Up near where I am there is a snow storm going on. Winter Storm Faith is coming down right now and currently, I am stuck at home for the time being. But, before the snow started falling, I was able to go out with a friend, surprise a friend, and talk to friend who I have not seen in while. Being able to be with friends on Valentines Day, is a wonderful thing. Valentines Day is not something that is just for couples, showing love to the people who have been in your life for the past sixteen/seventeen years is wonderful. I have three friends from childhood and some how we are still friends today. I remember how each of us had met, one I met in dance class, one I became friends with by kicking a soccer ball, and the other one sat across from me on the first day of second grade. So, with that being said, I am very lucky to say I have four sisters.

I have friends from college who have made a great impact on my life. Each friend I have from college has helped me transition from childhood to adult hood. Through my times with them I had learned that the world is not as kind as people think it is. Each one has left there mark on me because of who they are. There is no way I can think of my college years being any other way with out them. We looked after each other, we took care of each other, and we stuck together. None of them ever made sure you felt left out of the festivities that is part of Valentines Day because at the end of the day, they were my family away from home.

Going on to my family, I was born into a loving family filled with aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. I wouldn’t change them for the world. Throughout the year on my mom’s side I get to see some of them constantly. I tend to see more of my mothers extended family than I do my dad’s. But, on my dad’s side we have a family camp out. Each year someone on my dad’s side picks a campground and most of the family goes there. For one weekend, we all have a giant family reunion. With the years having gone by as fast as they have been, the family has gotten bigger. With both sides having their different ways of getting together and hanging out, there tends to be different personalities. I can’t really describe how this is, it just seems that way, but both sides are loving caring and that is what is important.

Finally, my loving family! I am very lucky to have two parents who had to punish me when I was bad and not give me a gift every time I was good. I have a younger sister who drives me crazy most of the time. Like all families we have our disagreements and our differences. But, at the end of the day I wouldn’t change them for anyone in the world. My parents and sister are the ones who keep me grounded and the ones who tell me when I am over exaggerating. They have no problem with supporting me in any endeavor I take. I love these three people who I wouldn’t change for the world.

When it comes down to it your friends and family are the ones who will love you most. They are the ones that have been with you through thick and thin. So, on this Valentines Day, I am thankful to say that I love each and every one of them.
