In my last post, I wrote about today being Alan Rickman’s birthday. He would have turned seventy today. Yet he passed away leaving behind a legacy of acting that reflects in many films. One of those films is Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. In this film he stars as the main antagonist: George, the Sheriff of Nottingham.
Following the classic legend of Robin Hood, we are introduced to a town that is being over taxed. Kevin Costner stars as Robin Hood as he tries to make up for the losses of many of the village folk. Yet, he finds his true love in Marion (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) and makes many enemies along the way. As we know, the Sheriff of Nottingham (Rickman) does not care for the actions of Robin Hood. Following his every move in an attempt to capture and kill Robin. All of this ends up leading to a showdown between Robin and the Sheriff.
Alan Rickman portrayed the ultimate villain in this film. The Sheriff of Nottingham was vindictive, sly, and murderous all for the fame and glory he craves. He does everything to make sure that Robin Hood “pays” for the crimes that he has committed. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is the adventure film that follows a classic tale that everyone knows.
