Yesterday, on July 5, 2016 the Juno probe from NASA reached Jupiter. This may not be exciting news to you, but it is to me. In honor of the spacecraft reaching the planet Jupiter, I have decided to do a movie that takes place in space. Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back is the perfect movie, to me, for this event to blog about.
Three years after the destruction of the Death Star, the Rebel Alliance finds themselves in trouble. After being driven from their home base, Princess Leia sets up a new camp knowing that her allies are being hunted down by Darth Vader. In the meantime, Luke Skywalker is with Han Solo after a near death experience. With the guidance of the spirit of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke heads off to find the ultimate Jedi Master. Upon arrival he is put off by Yoda who is a small green alien. However, Luke learns more from Yoda than he thought he would. With the guidance from Yoda, Luke decides it is time to go after Darth Vader. Boarding the Millennium Falcon with Han Solo and Chewbacca they start off on the journey. However, there are many obstacles that stand in their way, like bounty hunters and flying around asteroid fields. However not all is good for Han Solo who ends up being frozen due to a lost debt. All of this leads to Luke being separated from them with him finding Darth Vader and facing off. As you can probably guess, this leads up to the famous misspoken line: “No, I am your father,” by Darth Vader to Luke. In the battle Luke loses his hand, but none the less he is able to escape with Princess Leia, who was held prisoner, Chewbacca, and Lord Lando.
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back premiered to critical acclaim in 1980. I know it may seem weird to do a sci-fi movie in honor of Juno reaching Jupiter, but I am a geek what can I say. None the less, movies and space will be constantly reunited for years to come.
