On November 6, 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected the sixteenth President of the United States of America. Throughout his presidency, there would b a Civil War, slavery abolished, and strengthened the Federal Government. However, he would not have been a great president he was a fantastic lawyer. In the 1939 movie Young Mr. Lincoln, we are introduced to a fictionalized account of who he was before his historic presidency.
We are introduced to a young man who is traveling through New Salem, Illinois. Abraham Lincoln starts reading books on law, eventually becoming a lawyer. However, tragedy strikes when his girlfriend Ann passes away. He does meet Mary Todd who becomes attracted to him after he stops an angry mob from murdering two brothers who are accused of murder. Through Mary’s encouragement and his knowledge the two are innocent, Lincoln successfully defends the two. In the final scene we are shown Abe walking away heading onto a bigger adventure.
Although this movie is fictional, it speaks well to the character of Abraham Lincoln. On November 6, 1860 Abraham Lincoln became the sixteenth President of the United States. In the 1939 film Young Mr. Lincoln portrays who Abraham Lincoln was before he became one of the greatest Presidents of the United States.
