David Yates is probably best known for directing four of the Harry Potter films. However, none of them is quite like the seventh film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. In 2010 the second to last Harry Potter film prepared to the delight of the world with help from his artistry.
The movie opens with Harry Potter and his two friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger preparing to go on a dangerous journey of destroying Lord Voldemorts horcruxes. Knowing that Harry is going to start going after them Voldemort mobilizes his death eaters to stop them at all costs. After safely arriving at the Weasleys from an ambush by them Harry knows that the journey is going to start soon. When the Ministry of Magic is taken over Harry, Ron, and Hermione find themselves to be outlaws as Voldemort has taken over. They manage to break into the ministry in order to steal the first of Voldemort’s horcruxes, Salazar Slytherins locket. Sadly, the locket proves to have a negative impact on Ron as he temporarily leaves the group. Yet, Harry and Hermione continue on their journey bringing them to Potters’ parents home where they died. From their they narrowly escape again with Harry’s wand accidentally being destroyed. Eventually, Harry runs into Ron who successfully destroys the horcrux after saving Harry’s life. When Ron returns he informs Harry and Hermione of the injustice Voldemort has brought on. The trio then decide they have to go to the home of their good friend Luna Lovegood to talk to her father. However, Luna has been taken with her shaken father offering them up in trade. Once again the trio narrowly escape, but they end up being chased down by snatchers who have been employed to catch those who are Muggle-born. They are caught, then brought to Malfoy Manor as Harry is found out. Once they arrive Bellatrix Lestrange panics when she discovers they have Godric Gryffindor’s sword. Fearing Voldemort will punish them she sends Harry and Ron to the basement while she tortures Hermione for information. Harry and Ron find Luna Lovegood and wand maker Ollivander in the basement. Calling on the house elf Dobby for help, they manage to escape the basement to get Hermione. Sadly, Dobby is killed by Bellatrix Lestrange’s knife. They manage to get to the home of Ron’s brother Bill where Dobby is buried. In the meantime, the trio has discovered that Voldemort is after Albus Dumbledore’s wand. You see, his wand is considered to be the most powerful in the world as it was made by Death himself. The movie ends with Voldemort holding the wand up in triumph.
