October Traditions

October is my favorite month of the year. You probably could’ve easily guessed that if you read that Fall is my favorite season. But, October is the one month that sticks out the most. I love the spookiness of Halloween and enjoy partaking in the Fall festivities of New England, like apple picking and going to pumpkin patches. But, most of all I love the traditions I have made. here are a few of them and new ones as well:

  • Read Edgar Allan Poe’s complete works and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving. Fun Fact: Last year my dad and I went to Sleepy Hollow in New York. It was the day right after Halloween, but they were still celebrating the fictionally historic ride of Ichabod Crane. I do suggest going there one day outside of Halloween season as it is a town filled with history.
  • Apple, apples, everywhere! I love apples! I especially love going apple picking and making a pie out of the apples. I can’t get enough of apple cider donuts and apple cider in general. It is easy to find delicious apple products year round. This year, for the first time, I went to Clyde’s Cider Mill in Mystic, CT. It is the oldest run cider steam mill in the United States. Although, I did not see any demonstrations, I was able to enjoy an apple cider donut with a cider slushie.
  • Pumpkins! I love all things pumpkin especially pumpkin spice. It is hard to find anything pumpkin spice outside of fall. So, naturally, this time of year, especially in October, I go all out on the pumpkin spice, pumpkin pie, and pumpkin decor. I know above I explained my love of all things apple, but it is easy to find apple products year round.
  • Photography. I can’t get enough of snapping photos of fall flowers like mums and the leaves as they change. Fall brings in colors that paint a pretty scene that we can only see once a year. Living in New England, I am happy to say that I don’t have to travel far to see the leaves change.

And those are some of my October traditions. Yes, I know that these activities are enjoyed in the season of all. But, in the month of October there is something special about them. Maybe, because it is right in the middle of fall and November 1st unofficially marks the beginning of the Christmas season. All in all I hope you all have a wonderful October!
