Cyber Monday

The Monday after Thanksgiving has been officially known as Cyber Monday for the past couple of years. To me, Cyber Monday is more appealing than Black Friday. All you have to do is log into your computer, go to the website, and get all of the deals online without the crowds. You can do all of your shopping right from your bedroom without the crowds going wild for when the doors open. Yes, there is the problem of getting onto a website to get what you want in time before the item you want is gone. None the less, Cyber Monday is more appealing and easier than Black Friday. Happy Cyber Monday! I hope you found some very good deals online today.

Advent: Candle of Hope

“Oh, that I might have my request, that God would grant what I hope for”- Job 6:8

The season of Advent has begun! The final four Sundays before Christmas is here making me realize how fast this year has gone by. An Advent wreath contains traditionally contains four candles: three purple and one pink. Each one has a different meaning. The first one that is lit is a purple candle representing hope.

Hope is a word that reflects many things related to faith. There is hope in knowing that one day everything will turn out right. There is hope because when Mary gave birth to Jesus in the manger He gave us hope for everlasting life. For there is hope because of His promise to us.

November Reflections

Bring on the change. (Re)connect Anew - Navigate Relationships & Enrich Intimacy - in beautiful Colorado. www.DeniseOnofrey.com:

The month of November is coming to an end. Needless to say this month was not an easy one to go through. Two of my beloved aunts passed away within a week of each other. They are loved and truly missed by all. I am grateful to have them in my life with the memories that I am able to share for a lifetime. One of them made the best chicken salad. The other one I have memories of playing Skip-Bo with. Despite them being gone, I know that they are in Heaven.

Beyond all of the excitement of the upcoming holiday of Christmas, November is ending with the decorations going up. Thanksgiving morning my mom started taking out all of the decorations from the basement the moment before Santa came on at the end of the Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Day Parade. So up went all of the decorations for the star of the Holiday season. December is gearing up to be a busy month for me already and I hope to keep up with you all.

Black Friday

Black Friday Ads, Deals, Store Hours & More - One Stop Source for everything Black Friday:

Ah yes, the day after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday. The busiest shopping day of the year here in the U.S.A. due to all of the good sales. The stores open at six o’clock at night on Thanksgiving due to the lines of people who had been camping outside the store. People really do go crazy over here for the Friday after a day we are supposed to give thanks for what we have. Personally, I am not really a shopper, so I do not partake in the festivities of Black Friday like many others. So, if you went out shopping today, I hope you found great deals and were safe. Happy Black Friday everyone!

Mashed Turnip

With Thanksgiving tomorrow, there are some things that I look forward to. Right next to waking up to the Macy’s Day Parade and family time, there is the food that I don’t eat except for on this day. One of those is mashed turnip, which I have to wonder why. It is one of the easiest things to prepare and set up.

Ingredients:

I medium size turnip

2 cups of water

Peel and chop up turnip. Put in a pot and add the two cups of water. Boil turnip until the turnip is soft. Drain turnip and mash up in pot. Let the turnip cool and enjoy. If the turnip cools too much, then just place in the microwave for five to ten minutes. Enjoy!

You see that easy, I know that many people add butter, sugar, etc to their turnip. In fact, this really doesn’t sound like a recipe when I wrote it. All you need is water and turnip. But, at my house we make it plain and enjoy as is.

The Fearless Father

The Fearless Father

There was a man

Who was going to pray

When he saw a man

Who would cause pain

The fearless father

Threw himself

Upon the man

Saving hundreds

Of people

When the bomb went off

The fearless father

was going to pray

Inside a Mosque

A place to pray

Outside a place of prayer

In Beirut

His hometown

The fearless father

Became a hero

himself

The fearless father

Is forever remembered

As he gave his life

Leaving behind

A wife and two children

Who he made proud

for so many others

In memory of Adel Termos, the man who saved countless others from a suicide bomber in Beirut, Lebanon. May this hero be remembered

Prayers to Russia

Many of us have heard about the Russian aircraft brought down by ISIS. Although, this post comes a little late,  I was reminded of this tragedy of innocent civilians who were going on board a flight. The innocent lives of 224 people lost their lives due to a terrorist attack. Even though, America and Russia have a history, there is no reason to send condolences.

The Feast of Christ the King

Feast of Christ the King

Jesus Christ is the faithful witness,
the firstborn of the dead and ruler of the kings of the earth.
To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood,
who has made us into a kingdom, priests for his God and Father,
to him be glory and power forever and ever. Amen.- Revelations 1:5

I just learned this earlier today that today is the Feast Day of Christ the King. A day that was dedicated by Pope Pius XI in 1925 as the final Sunday in Ordinary time. In his own words he described the reason behind this day. “The faithful, moreover, by meditating upon these truths, will gain much strength and courage, enabling them to form their lives after the true Christian ideal. If to Christ our Lord is given all power in heaven and on earth; if all men, purchased by his precious blood, are by a new right subjected to his dominion; if this power embraces all men, it must be clear that not one of our faculties is exempt from his empire. He must reign in our minds, which should assent with perfect submission and firm belief to revealed truths and to the doctrines of Christ. He must reign in our wills, which should obey the laws and precepts of God. He must reign in our hearts, which should spurn natural desires and love God above all things, and cleave to him alone. He must reign in our bodies and in our members, which should serve as instruments for the interior sanctification of our souls, or to use the words of the Apostle Paul, as instruments of justice unto God,” Pope Pius XI. In he fully explains the reason why we have a reason to live, because He lived and died for us. For Christ did make the ultimate sacrifice for us and to honor Him.
