The Volcano

The Volcano

Volcano. Ok so obviously I cannot actually go here, but this view is unbelievable. #etna

In the darkness

A mountain is a glow

with fire coming

Out of the top

Sparks of flame

Light up the darkened

Smoke rises filling the

Night sky

On the mountain

You can see more light

That comes from

The outside

And reflects more

Of what the mountain

Is not what it was

A volcano

Has erupted

Beautiful

Yet frightening

The volcano is mystifying

To look at

While others fear

The destruction

That is to come

I stare in awe

As nature starts

To paint art

Through the volcano

St. Peter and St. Paul Feast Day

Greco, El - Sts Peter and Paul.jpg

Two of the most well known apostles feast day is today. Saint Peter and Saint Paul are honored on this day having become martyrs named by the Catholic Church. Two of the earliest leaders in the Catholic church are remembered today for their devotion to Jesus Christ and spreading His word. Saint Peter and Saint Paul are two different apostles with different meaning, but they share the same feast day with each one being remembered for the good deed they have done.

Operation Red Wing Anniversary

Ten years ago today eleven U.S. Navy SEALS and eight U.S. Special Operations Forces Soldiers were killed in Afghanistan as part of the War in Afghanistan. Operation Red Wings was the name of the operation that had failed when they tried a counter insurgent mission in the Kunar Province of Afghanistan. These brave soldiers had given their lives for the world to be a better place. Today we remember those who gave their lives on this day to never see their homeland again.

The men who gave their lives is the photo on the bottom and  the top one has their names. Each one of them deserves to be remembered.

Mrs. Dash Spice

In my last recipe entry, the tilapia, I added in Mrs. Dash as a spice. Mrs. Dash is an amazing season blending are salt and MSG free. They taste just as good as a regular spice does. The two kinds that I have tried so far are table blend and Italian medley. There are many more kinds from Mrs. Dash as well. In the future, I plan on substituting Mrs. Dash for many more spices in recipes involving seasoning. Here is the website: http://www.mrsdash.com/

Quotes Challenge #3

Audrey...A great role model. She was more than a beautiful woman she was also a great humanitaraian.

There is a lot of pain and suffering in this world an many others need love and care. By taking care of one another is the first step. On a daily basis we hear about the cruelties of the world and those who are suffering the most in those countries. No one deserves to suffer the pain of starvation or the horrors of war. No one deserves to go on through their life without a proper education or drinking dirty water. So many people in the world have to worry about where their next meal is coming from, drink from a soiled river, leave school early to work, and witness the violence of war too early on in life. This quote by Audrey Hepburn, along with this picture, reflects the suffering of then and now in the world. Hopefully, one day there will be a day when none of this existent and everyone has the right to live with human dignity.

Quote Challenge #2

@swakdesigns's photo: "Love this. Where are our Harry Potter fans?"

Lets face it, we live in a world where the skinnier the better. It doesn’t mater if you are anorexic or not as long as you are skinny then you are healthy. This message is one that has been going on for too long started by some people in Hollywood. Today, there are people who are starving themselves just to be thin. There are those who are making themselves sick after they eat just to lose an extra pound. Instead, of starving and vomiting on a daily basis, why not try looking in a mirror and saying what is good about yourself rather than what the world expects from you. So, you ate a bacon cheeseburger with fries for dinner, big deal! One meal is not going to make you unhealthy, as long as you EAT healthy and exercise then you are already making strides to a healthier life. There is more to life than worrying about body image. Diets to the point where you eat nothing but lettuce for months at a time doesn’t do the trick. A healthy diet is the one that you should focus on. By, talking to a doctor or nutritionist to help you out with making changes to your diet. Not by taking the route that makes you sick. Don’t forget it is who the person is on the inside not on the outside.

Quotes Challenge #1

anaphora -noun, the deliberate repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of several successive verses, clauses, or paragraphs "We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets." -Winston Churchill

Standing up for what you believe in is not always easy. Sometimes, it can cost you your friends and family as well as respect. But, if you stand up for something that you believe in and know that it is right, then you are already making the right decision. Winston Churchill is one of my favorite people to quote for his quotes are the ones who have had the most profound impact on me. Believe me, it was not easy picking out which one of his quotes to use. The former Prime Minister of England lead Britain through World War II and made a few enemies in his life. Thus, showing that when you stand up for something, the outcome in the end is what is right.

Three Quotes Challenge

This pin is more as a reminder to myself than anything else. I've learned a little about Churchill, and have always meant to read and learn more. What I know really makes me want to learn more, but I keep reading other things. Maybe on vacation, when I actually take one...I was recently invited to do a 3 Quotes Challenge by Fimnora Westcaw. It was very difficult picking out three quotes as many quotes over the years have inspired me. But, I finally came down to just three quotes that have stuck with me from the moment they taught me a lesson. Here they are:

“You have enemies? Good that means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.”-Winston Churchill

J.K. Rowling Shuts Down Homophobic Tweeter... My respect for her is endless“Is ‘fat’ really the worst thing a human being can be? Is ‘fat’ worse than ‘vindictive’, ‘jealous’, ‘shallow’, ‘vain’, ‘boring’ or ‘cruel’? Not to me.”- J.K. Rowling

Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina - 1954“As you get older, remember you have another hand: the first is to help yourself, the second is to help others.”- Audrey Hepburn

Here you have it the three quotes that have a profound impact on me. Off to nominate my three fellow bloggers now!

Here they are: chowkimwan.wordpress.com, lifepostbrainhemorrhage.wordpress.com, and lespetitspasdejuls.wordpress.com

The rules of the road:

National PTSD Awareness Day

Yesterday, I wrote about the day dedicated to victims of torture, little did I know that the following day, today, would be about PTSD. PTSD stands for post-traumatic stress disorder, something that is found when a person who had been through a traumatic event that they have trouble dealing with. As it is known, many soldiers who have returned from a battle zone suffer from PTSD due to the horrors of war. However, surviving/witnessing a shooting, a bank robbery, and/or being assaulted can lead to the suffering of PTSD. I do not know anyone who has PTSD, but I know of people who do know others who suffer from PTSD. A horrible disease that is not caused by a germ, but witnessing and surviving something awful that no one can imagine. When we watch cop shows on television they show us fictionalized accounts of what someone looks like when they are dying or being held up at a bank. Truth be told, only the victims of an event that is horrible and awful can really say what it is like to survive and suffer from PTSD.

Helen Keller Day

Helen Keller-Even though she was deaf and blind, she learned to communicate and became a world-famous supporter of women's suffrage. #HelenKeller

“Be happy with what you have while working for what you want.”- Helen Keller

When I woke up this morning I learned that Helen Keller was born on this day back in 1880. Through her tough childhood starting at the age of two with scarlet fever rendering her blind, deaf, and mute she had to over come more than many others had to. Severely, misunderstood for her inability to communicate with her family and friends her parents called in Anne Sullivan who taught Helen reading, writing, and how to communicate using braille. Since her childhood, Helen proved to be smarter than she looked. She was able to go to college and get an education. Helen Keller became an activist and remained active in causes for Women’s Rights and other political activities. This bright woman is remembered for showing the world to not dwell on your shortcomings, but to appreciate what is around you.
