Annunciation

She was thoroughly shaken, wondering what was behind a greeting like that. But the angel assured her, “Mary, you have nothing to fear. God has a surprise for you: You will become pregnant and give birth to a son and call his name Jesus.- Luke 1:26-38

The Feast of the Annunciation is celebrated to honor the day the Angel Gabriel came to Mary to tell her that she would be carrying the Son of God. In this day and age, an unmarried woman who became pregnant could have been stoned to death. Yet, Mary trusted God to know that she would be kept safe for she was going to carry His son. On the day the Annunciation is celebrated we remember why Mary said yes rather than no.

Thanks for posting this! Happy Feast of the Annunciation!
However, I feel like I should point out that whatever Bible you used for that quote, the translations seem a little off. I’ve never heard of Gabriel saying “God has a surprise for you”. I would recommend using quotes from the New American Bible or the Vulgate.
