Seventy-one years ago today the Allied forces stormed the beach of Normandy. In doing so they successfully landed in Europe to bring the destruction of Nazi tyranny. Many of these brave men died on the beach, while others carried on and fought. In the largest amphibious invasion that involved seven thousand warships and countless soldiers, sailors, and airmen we don’t forget.
Today we have freedom in this country because of brave men and women who serve in our nation. As we sleep soundly at night, we sometimes forget why we are able to do this. It is because many battles have been fought before, like on the Normandy beach on June 6, 1944, to keep us free. The men and women who serve in our forces keep their promise of keeping America the same country it was when they were born, free. Freedom is not free, for freedom in America comes with the sacrifice from so many brave men and women who served, just like on D-Day in Normandy.
